Cleaning an oven can be one of the tougher household tasks, but with the help of a few natural ingredients, it’s possible to achieve a sparkling, chemical-free result. This method is perfect for removing built-up grease and grime while keeping it safe for the environment.

What You’ll Need:

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Water
  • Spray bottle
  • Scrub brush or sponge
  • A small bowl
  • Microfiber cloths

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Prepare a Baking Soda Paste
In a small bowl, mix about ½ cup of baking soda with water to create a spreadable paste. Adjust the amount of water until it forms a thick but spreadable consistency.

2. Apply the Paste
Remove the oven racks (clean them separately) and spread the baking soda paste on the oven’s interior surfaces. Focus on areas with heavy grime, but avoid heating elements if they’re exposed. Let the paste sit for at least 12 hours or overnight for the best results.

3. Clean the Oven Racks
Soak the oven racks in a sink or tub filled with hot water and a few tablespoons of baking soda. Let them soak for a couple of hours, then scrub away any stuck-on grime with a brush or sponge. Rinse and dry the racks before reinserting.

4. Wipe Down the Oven
After letting the baking soda sit, use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe away as much paste as possible. You might need to use a plastic scraper to help loosen particularly stubborn spots.

5. Spray Vinegar
Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and spritz the inside of the oven. The vinegar will react with any remaining baking soda, creating a foamy action that helps lift any remaining residue. Wipe with a clean, damp cloth until all foam and residue are removed.

6. Final Wipe Down
Use a dry microfiber cloth to give the interior a final wipe, ensuring all surfaces are dry and streak-free.

Optional:
For a fresh scent, add a few drops of lemon essential oil to the final cloth or into the vinegar spray bottle.

Tips for Maintaining a Clean Oven:

  • Wipe after each use: This prevents grease and food particles from building up.
  • Spot clean spills immediately: Baking soda and water on a sponge can be used for quick clean-ups.

This method is highly effective, chemical-free, and helps keep your home clean and green!
